Greetings, Mooji, and thank you for granting this interview.
M: Thank you, thank you very much.
RA: I have very much enjoyed listening to other interviews you’ve done in preparation for this conversation. Your clarity and directness are truly striking, and I’ve found your teachings profoundly impactful. Many people approach spiritual seeking with a sense of striving, a feeling that they need to achieve something, to *become* something. Your message often seems to be the opposite: a pointing towards the already present, the inherent freedom that is already within us. Could you elaborate on this central theme of your teachings?
M: The striving, the seeking, the yearning – these are all expressions of a misunderstanding. They are born from the belief that we are separate, incomplete, lacking. This belief, this identification with the limited self, is the root of all suffering. My work, my pointing, is simply to help people see through this illusion. It’s not about achieving enlightenment, becoming enlightened; it’s about recognizing that you already *are* that which you seek. The truth is not something to be attained; it is something to be seen, recognized, realized. It’s already here, shining brightly, obscured only by the clouds of thought and belief.
RA: Your YouTube presence is immense, with millions of views across your various videos. Millions have turned to your Mooji YouTube channel seeking guidance and solace. What do you think accounts for this widespread appeal? What is it about your approach that resonates so deeply with so many people?
M: I believe it’s the simplicity of the message. People are tired of complicated philosophies, intricate rituals, and arduous practices. They yearn for something direct, something that cuts through the noise and speaks to the heart. The message of self-realization, of the inherent freedom that is our birthright, is profoundly simple, yet deeply transformative. The Mooji YouTube Channel is merely a tool, a means of sharing this message with a wider audience. It’s not about me; it’s about the truth that shines through. It’s about the recognition of the already present, the already known. The response, I believe, stems from the inherent longing within each human heart to return home, to rest in the stillness of their own being. The videos offer a glimpse of that stillness, a taste of that freedom.
RA: The term "Moojibaba" is often used affectionately by your followers. This term, imbued with a sense of reverence and love, seems to reflect a deeply personal connection many feel with you. How do you view this relationship with your audience?
M: "Moojibaba," it's a term of endearment, a reflection of the deep affection and trust that has grown between us. It's beautiful to witness this connection, this sense of community. But it’s crucial to understand that this connection is not based on personality or individual reverence for me. It’s a connection to the truth that we all share, a recognition of the inherent unity that underlies all apparent separation. The trust is not in me, but in the direct experience of the Self, the realization of one's own true nature. Any perceived personal connection is simply a stepping stone, a pointer towards the ultimate realization of the Self. The love, the affection, the reverence – these are all beautiful expressions, but they are not the goal. The goal is the direct experience of the Self, the freedom that is already present.
